TAKING THE WATERS

E’ tempo di recarsi sull’Aventino per raccogliere gli auspici per la fondazione di una nuova città verticale.
C’è profumo di aranci mentre ammiriamo lo scenario. Un odore tanto intenso ed acre quanto la nostra avversione a frantumare quella straordinaria prospettiva.
La prima intuizione.
Sovrapponiamo concettualmente un nuovo skyline al preesistente. Esso si erge da terra e si innalza galleggiando sul vecchio, che rimane intatto e leggibile.
Senti anche tu il rumore di acqua che scorre?
Una cascata ci inonda.

Seconda intuizione.
L’acqua cade dall’alto e trova il suo percorso generando strutture verticali. Si diffonde per l'intero volume in quanto elemento fondamentale. La osserviamo da ogni punto. Essa è itinerante.
Si muove contemporaneamente all’osservatore che la vede scorrere e la circoscrive, pervadendo tutte le funzioni all’interno, le quali diventano esse stesse itineranti e collegate tra di loro, “percorrendo” l’acqua.
Essenziale all’esterno, la struttura nasconde complessità e frammentazione all’interno.
Il suo volume cilindrico facilita la percorrenza verticale e garantisce una panoramica costante, ed è composto da corpi irregolari, separati tra loro, ma permeabili visivamente, ognuno dei quali è dotato di un proprio “flusso di acqua”, ossia i corpi strutturali dei collegamenti verticali, i quali uniscono i gruppi di attività ai vari livelli, luoghi deputati alle varie funzioni, e li rendono raggiungibili separatamente.
Dall’Aventino, dopo un lungo cammino, giungiamo ai margini del sito. Siamo appassionati e accalorati. Cerchiamo ristoro all’ombra dei platani, ma non c’è spazio o tregua per alcun tipo di sospensione.
E' in arrivo la terza intuizione.
Ci sono foglie dappertutto, le raccogliamo ed improvvisiamo un collage.
Gli avvenimenti che animano l’interno della struttura diventano pubblici dall’interno e privati dall’esterno. Una lamiera microforata, che funge da involucro schermante, ripropone la tessitura del fogliame dei platani, compresa la loro irregolarità e densa chioma.
Ci incamminiamo verso l’ingresso, attraverso stazioni passanti disseminate lungo i percorsi. Gradonate che superano dislivelli, nuclei attrezzati, estrusioni generatrici di bolle d’acqua, strutture portanti che sfidano la legge di gravità, provocano e rimodellano insistentemente il terreno generando il disegno di fantastiche figure marine che navigano verso ovest, piloti di una nuova visione

TAKING THE WATERS

It’s time to go on the Aventine hill to get the auspices for the foundation of the new vertical city.
We can smell orange blossom while we admire the scenery. A perfume as intense as our aversion shatter that extraordinary perspective.
Here is our the first intuition.
To overlap conceptually a new skyline to the existing one.
It would raise from the ground and stay afloat on the old one, which would remains intact and readable.
Can you also hear the water flowing?

A waterfall floods us.
Our second intuition.
Waterfalls and finds its path by shaping vertical structures. Water pervades volume as basic element. We can see it from everywhere it wanders.
It moves along with the beholder who watches its flow and circumscribes it. It pervades all functions from within so that they become itinerant too and connected “trough water”.
Essential from the outside, the structure hides complexity and fragmentation within. The cylindrical volume facilitates vertical perspective and ensures a constant overview.
It consists of irregular bodies, separated from each other but visually permeable , each of which has its own “stream of water”, the structural bodies of vertical links which unite the task groups, places devoted to various functions making them accessible separately.
From the Aventine hill, after a long walk, we get at the edge of the site.
We are passionate and sweaty. We seek refreshment in the shade of the plane trees; but there’s no space or truce for suspension type.
The third intuition is coming.
There are leaves everywhere, we collect them and we improvise a collage.
The events that animate the inside of the structure become public from within and private outside. A mesh, acting as an outer casing, recalls the weaving of plane trees foliage; with its irregularity and dense foliage.
We are moving towards the entrance, through station passersby scattered along the paths.
Terraces that overcome slopes, equipped cores, extrusions generating water bubbles, supporting structures that defy the law of gravity, cause and reshape the land so as to define marine figures sailing westward, pilots of a new vision.
